About

An independent story-development studio creating original television, film, animation, and fiction — a division of FieldDesk.

Who I Am

I follow ordinary decisions to their logical extremes.

FD Productions is an independent story-development studio creating original television, film, animation, and fiction. My work explores the systems people build, the places they inhabit, and the consequences that emerge when ordinary decisions are followed to their logical extremes.

I am development-first. Before anything else, I build the world, the characters, and the structure — and I shape each project around the idea at its center rather than forcing it to fit a format. The result is intended to be ambitious, atmospheric, and a little unsettling.

What I'm Drawn To

Storytelling interests

Recurring pressures rather than fixed genres — the territory my projects tend to occupy.

01

Speculative Futures

Near-tomorrow worlds where one new capability quietly rewrites everyday life.

02

Psychological Suspense

Interior pressure over spectacle — dread built from character and consequence.

03

Human Systems

Institutions and designed environments, and the people inside them.

04

Isolated Places

Rooms, towns, and structures where an internal logic can take hold.

Part of FieldDesk

A production division of FieldDesk.

FD Productions is the narrative-development division of FieldDesk. Where the parent practice works in design, Productions carries the same sensibility into story — a belief that structure is never neutral, and that the way something is built shapes what it does to the people who encounter it.

That design lineage is a point of view, not a constraint. It shows up as an interest in systems, in built environments, and in the uncomfortable spaces between intention and outcome.

An independent approach

I develop material independently — writing, world-building, and preparing pitch materials in-house — and I bring projects to collaborators and partners when the work is ready to speak for itself.

John Farmer, Founder & Writer

John Farmer is the founder and principal writer of FieldDesk Production Media, an independent studio developing original stories for television, film, animation, and publishing. A graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, John holds degrees in Art and Landscape Architecture. He currently works as a freelance designer, is helping launch a nonprofit organization in Las Vegas, and applies the same world-building instincts to stories that he brings to physical spaces.

His work includes the published novel Backwoods: The Beginning, the speculative television project By Design, and the adult animated series High Stakes. Across formats, John is drawn to immersive worlds, uncomfortable ideas, complicated characters, and stories that leave something behind after they end.

FieldDesk was created to grow beyond a single project or medium. The goal is to build an independent media studio where original concepts can be developed carefully, challenged honestly, and carried as far as the story allows, whether that means a novel, a screenplay, an animated series, or something that doesn’t fit neatly into one category.
